Since 1977, AHEC West has coordinated health professions student rotations across Western Maryland and the broader region. We place students from the University of Maryland system in clinical settings — connecting them with rural and underserved communities and the dedicated practitioners who serve them.
More than 3,000 students across a wide range of disciplines have rotated through AHEC West placements. Since 2014, more than 30% of them have gone on to practice in Medically Underserved Areas or Health Professional Shortage Areas — a direct reflection of the program’s mission.
